Melisa Cerda

Running for A.S. Director of Student Fee Affairs

My name is Melisa Cerda, I am currently the Vice President of Standards of Kappa Delta Sorority. I am also a campus organizer for Tuition Relief Now at San Jose State, working to freeze tuition hikes in all CA public universities, and am a member of the Democratic Caucus of SJSU. Making college affordable for those who would like to pursue higher education is my main concern and passion. I am a sophomore majoring in Social Work, and I care about the politics surrounding the welfare of the common person..

I receive financial aid in Cal Grants, Work Study, EOP, and take out Student loans every year to finance my college degree, and still it?s not enough. I understand and endure the struggle which the majority of students face on a day to day basis. Life is not easy; everyday something needs to get done, which is why I would like to help relieve some of the burden which many of you, as well as myself, carry. I work twenty hours a week, take seventeen units, have meetings 3 times a week, and somehow find time to study and give back to the community. I would love the chance to help the institution and members who pursue the opportunities which shape our future. If elected, I will advocate on behalf of the many types of assistance which we desperately want and need, and I will do whatever I can to expand the resources made available to us.
